Sometimes it can feel like your outer self and your inner self just aren't aligned. When that happens, you start feeling a sense of disconnect when dressing daily and often times, utterly uninspired when it comes to your wardrobe. Maybe you've experienced life changes recently or perhaps you've just lost sight of who you are and find that you don't even know where to start.
If that's you, try these 3 simple steps to rediscovering your personal style!
1. Collect Inspiration
What are you drawn to? Find and collect visuals that resonate with you. Bring them all together, whether that be in a physical mood-board or a digital space (like Pinterest), and view them all together.
2. Discover What You Love
Analyse your inspiration. What are some of the common themes? Are there colours, designs or textures that you are drawn to repeatedly? What story is your mood-board telling? Write a list of all the common elements between the pieces that you have selected for your mood-board and have this list on hand so that you can refer to it when you are making clothing decisions.
3. Get To Know You
Dedicate some time aside to get to know the 'you' now. This is one of the most vital parts of the process in discovering your style. Your personal style is an external reflection of who you are inside, an extension to your identity.
"To have style, you have to know who you are."
This might take awhile, but trust me, it is so worth it. Get out a journal or your laptop, put on some music that will get you in the zone and get to know that person in the mirror.
What does your current lifestyle look like?
What daily activities do your clothes need to support you with?
What are your outfits on highest rotation? Do these outfits make you feel confident and great? Why are you reaching for these?
What have you discovered from your collection of inspiration in steps 1 and 2?
How do you want to be perceived? This is not at all about placing importance on what people think of you, instead, placing importance on who you want to show up as for yourself in your world.
Dressing up everyday should bring joy and empowerment. Don't waste another day feeling otherwise!
