6 Ways To Build Style Confidence At Home

Updated: Mar 26

In a world where working from home has become the norm for many of us, the line between comfort and style seems to blur. It's a common scenario: finding the motivation to dress up for the outside world comes easy, but what about those days spent at home?

Whether it's working from your home office, managing home chores, or simply enjoying a quiet day alone, the question of "What to wear?" often takes a backseat.

The struggle of dressing up at home is real, my friend (I totally relate!) and often times plagued by thoughts like these:

  • "I can't be bothered, it's just going to be me anyway,"

  • "I just want to be comfortable," or

  • "It's such a waste to wear my nice clothes at home."

Did I just read your mind?

But have you ever wondered, why we find ourselves trapped in this cycle of thought?

At its core, this struggle isn't just about clothing; it's about how we think and the value we place on dressing for ourselves.

It hit me like a ton of bricks when this realisation dawned on me:

If it was truly easier to dress up for a day out (rather than a day at home) because I was going to meet people or that people were going to see me, then did that really mean that I found it easier to dress for others than myself?

  • Are you placing more value on what others see instead of what you see?

  • Are you telling yourself that you're not worthy (that it's a waste) to enjoy your nicer outfits if no one else were there to see it?

  • Are you saying that how you feel and show up for yourself doesn't matter?

The act of dressing well shouldn't just be reserved for public appearances.

What if we viewed dressing up at home not as an unnecessary effort but as a celebration of self, a way to honour our daily presence and activities, no matter how small or routine?

I challenge you to answer these questions in your own time because if dressing up is solely for others' eyes, we're truly missing the joy of dressing for ourselves.

Then of course, the age old struggle of dressing for style vs. for comfort.

Alright guys, let's bust this myth once and for all.

Comfort doesn't have to be the enemy of style.

Let's read this again to let it sink in.

Comfort and style can and should co-exist simultaneously. If this isn't happening for you right now, it's likely that your wardrobe hasn't been built to serve you the way it should. The pieces in your wardrobe should reflect your style, make you feel special and confident, AND it can only do that when you feel comfortable wearing them.

If the above were true for you, being that you start valuing how you show up for yourself and that you can be comfortable whilst feeling good in what you wear ...

How will this change the way you approach dressing on the daily?

Practical Steps Forward

To bridge the gap between intention and action, here are 6 practical steps to make dressing up at home more doable and fun!

  1. Prepare Your Outfit the Night Before: Eliminate morning indecision and start your day with intention.

  2. Curate a Weekly Rack: Select a week's worth of outfits that make you feel good, ensuring variety and accessibility.

  3. Incorporate FaceTime: Give yourself a reason to dress up by scheduling video calls, taking a brief walk, or arranging a coffee run. or lunch date with a friend.

  4. Document Your Looks: Keep a style journal or snap daily outfit photos to track and celebrate your style journey.

  5. Find an Accountability Buddy: Share this journey with a friend, encouraging each other to embrace daily dressing up.

  6. Embrace the Challenge: Set yourself a style challenge to bring fun and motivation to your daily dressing routine.

Transforming how we approach dressing at home is more than a choice; it's a step towards valuing ourselves and our day-to-day experiences.
