4 Expert Tips to Wearing More of Your Wardrobe

Updated: Jun 6, 2023

Do you often find yourself wearing the same-old same-old outfit - even though you have a large wardrobe?

If this is you, you'll want to read this!

You aren't alone if you find that you constantly go back to the same 20% of your wardrobe, 80% of the time.

In fact, there are actual statistics to back that.

But the question is, HOW do you overcome the unworn 80% portion of your wardrobe?

Lets shake up that 'same-old same-old' habit and give your neglected wardrobe some love ❤️

1. Re-arrange Your Wardrobe

If it's out of sight, it's out of mind. Being the time poor people we are, it is a no-brainer that we pull out the first thing we see when we are getting dressed for the day. So how to we combat this habit?

If we always pull out items from the same side, its highly likely the items from the other side are not getting as much attention.

Instead, try this: Dig through your wardrobe and pull the items that have not been worn for awhile. Hang them in plain sight so you will see them every time you open that wardrobe door. You may even find new pieces with tags still on!

So shuffle up your wardrobe and reconnect with those forgotten pieces!

2. Draw New Inspiration

Left that piece to hide in the wardrobe because you just don't know how to wear it? Perhaps you love the piece but you're struggling to wear it more than the one way you know how.

I encourage you to get yourself on to a platform like Pinterest or Google and search for new inspiration. Be very specific when you are searching.

For example:

  • "Trench coats outfit"

  • "Boots and skirt outfit winter"

This will allow you to become more experimental and intentional when you are crafting your outfit. It will also give you new ideas on ways to wear your pieces you might not possibly have thought of and your wardrobe will become more sustainable. It's a win-win!

3. Remove that clutter!

A cluttered wardrobe equals a cluttered mind. Which is why we often pick the first item we see to get the process over and done with.

Remove those items that no longer fit, which quality have seen better days, and which style no longer reflects you.

Our wardrobe is a precious place, let it hold only the things that aid us in being the best version of us. By allowing 'breathing space' in your wardrobe, you create a state of calm and clarity when getting dressed every day.

4. Wear the unworn pieces!

What better way to tackle the unworn wardrobe than to actually wear it?!

A great way to do this is by setting up a weekly rack. Pull out 5 items (or how many you so choose) that you haven't worn in ages/before, and set them aside - preferably hanging on a rack or if you don't have one, just right at the front of your wardrobe (so that it'll be the first items you see when you open your wardrobe door).

Then, make it a point to use those items in the outfits you wear throughout the week. E.g. For this week, you have to choose at least one item from this selection daily.

Left to our own devices, human nature will always gravitate to what we're used to. This is why intentionally setting up our environment will help us change up old habits!

I hope this left you feeling inspired and empowered to shake up your wardrobe this coming season. Let's step out of your usual and discover what lies beyond!
